Statements from current and past ASPIRE Sixth students:
“We’ve debated lots of topics [in debate club] during my time in the Sixth form, but my favourite was the balloon debate when we discussed the most important individuals of the last few centuries. I successfully argued that the philosopher John Locke should be considered one of the greats.”
“I was excited to meet an ex student who had gone to Oxford University and his experience made me realise I too should consider applying and I’m glad I did.”
“The trip to Liverpool University in year 12 was really useful as it helped me decide the sort of university I should consider applying to.”
“A favourite moment during my year 12 was when the local MP and Education Secretary visited. A group of us were free to question him on any topic and I enjoyed getting his responses on my question related to university applications.”
“I really enjoyed the Christmas fayre where our tutor group raised money for Cancer research by holding a cake sale. Our tutor group raised the most money. It was really nice to see the rest of the school participating.”
“Meeting with ex students at university was really useful to help understand what university life was like. It made me realise that it is possible to get into a good university”.
“I enjoyed the visit to Birmingham’s Christmas market at Christmas. It was good to relax at the end of a hard term of schoolwork”.
“The leavers’ meal was brilliant. We got to say goodbye to our tutors and teachers and felt like it was a good way to finish seven years of school.”
